Just weeks after the October 21st ceremony co-naming the block of Great Jones Street between Bowery and Lafayette as Jean-Michel Basquiat Way—unveiled steps from Atelier Jolie at No. 57, Jean-Michel's longtime home and studio—his sisters Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux joined Claude Grunitzky for an intimate conversation on family, stewardship, and the living legacy of an artist who shaped New York and continues to shape the world.

Lisane Basquiat is co-administrator of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, which she stewards alongside her sister Jeanine Heriveaux and stepmother Nora Fitzpatrick. She served as co-curator and co-executive producer of the landmark exhibition Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure©, designed by Sir David Adjaye, which drew on the family's private collection of over 200 rarely seen works at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in New York before traveling to The Grand LA. Born in Brooklyn to a Haitian father and Puerto Rican mother, she is also the founder and CEO of Shaping Freedom, a transformational coaching practice, and owner of Hera Hub Carlsbad, a coworking community for women entrepreneurs. A former corporate executive at American Express, Sodexho, and Prudential, she was named NAWBO San Diego's 2022 Business Woman of the Year and honored with Lisane Basquiat Day by the County of San Diego in February 2025.

Jeanine Heriveaux is co-administrator of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, which she stewards alongside her sister Lisane Basquiat and stepmother Nora Fitzpatrick. Together with Lisane, she conceived, curated, and executive-produced Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure©, the family's first major exhibition drawn from their private collection — an immersive presentation designed by Sir David Adjaye that featured over 200 paintings, drawings, multimedia works, and personal artifacts, and included recreations of the Basquiat family's Brooklyn home and Jean-Michel's Great Jones Street studio. Born and raised in Brooklyn to Matilde Andradas, of Puerto Rican descent, and Gérard Basquiat, a Haitian immigrant, Jeanine has worked alongside her sister to bring Jean-Michel into focus not only as a global cultural icon but as a brother, son, and Brooklyn-born child — anchoring his legacy in the family and city that shaped him.
